 From Tee to Green

Verona Hills Golf Club

June 2011

From the Links…

Greetings from the Greens Department! June in upon us and we went from cold and wet to hot and dry! No problem! The course is in great shape and we are right on track to have a great summer!  The new pump station is doing its job and running awesome! Our increased volume of water out to the course helps not only timing of watering cycles but area covered as well.  Some of the things we have been working on include: wrapping up the soil and seed around the pump station, edging cart paths, and sodding in the greenside bunkers on #10 green. Some drainage issues in some areas will be addressed this summer also. A big thank you out to the members who are helping out in June to do some projects.  Also Congratulations to The Bad Axe Team for there second place finish at MHSAA Districts which Verona hosted.  We also won 2nd in the Greater Thumb!

The summer is cranking up so get out and play!  Any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.

 From the Golf Shop...

With the summer upon us, the golf season is in full swing here at the Club.  June is host to some great events across all of our associations.  We will also be starting our Monday Night Men’s & Ladies League along with Friday Couples Events in June.

First off, congratulations to our President’s Stag Day winning team of Scott MacGregor, Jack Klebba, Mike Bogan & Mark Watson.  The team had a combined point total of 71 and won the event by three points.

I want to thank the members that cleaned out their closets and participated in the May golf shop promotion benefiting the tornado victims in Alabama.  Collectively we were able to deliver nearly 80 shirts to the Salvation Army in Birmingham, Alabama.

This coming Monday, June 13th will be our two-person Monday Night  League Kickoff.  The league still has spaces available and is only $20 for this year’s league.  Tee times may be made one week in advance.  You can pick up your pairings in the golf shop on June 8th.  Please call the golf shop for more details and to sign up.

The golf shop is full of great merchandise and now is the time to find that new outfit or club to make your golf season more stylish and enjoyable.  Come pick out a gift for dad and save 10% on all in-stock merchandise from June 11th – 19th

Lastly, we have a few schedule changes due all of our snow this past winter and extended school schedules.  This year’s Summer Junior Golf Camp will now be the week of June 20th – 24th.  In conjunction with the change we have moved the 25th Annual Buckley Open Junior Tournament to Friday, June 24th.  Please call the golf shop for more details and to sign up.

Come enjoy the golf course and this beautiful weather that we finally have!!!  I hope to see you all at the Club soon!!!

Beautificataion Project....

The Beautification Project is coming along nicely,  and the first phase is under way with the front entry way near completion.  Please take a look, the carpet was removed under the front canopy and we've added a beatiful stone foundation.  Our next phase is to locate large stones which we would like to anchor on both sides of the side-walk leading to the front entry.  If you, or anyone you know has large stones that could be donated or purchased at a low cost please let us know.  Again, this project is being solely funded by the generous contributions of our membership and without your help the project would not be possible.  As we push the top of our budget we will be having other small raffles to help fund the project.  The planting phase of the project will be coming soon and we'll be asking for volunteers.  Please let us know if you would be available for planting.

Respectfully,

The Beautification Committee

Dan Clarkson, Chairman  & Vicky Gardner, Committee Member
